Data Entry Jobs Over the Internet

August 9, 2009 – 9:45 pm

There are several websites offering data entry jobs from home. Normally, these jobs consist in submitting ads, transcribing texts, submitting articles or processing spreadsheets with some sort of information. Not all are good and some are even scams. If you want or need a second job and don’t know where to start searching, then you should follow some basic rules.

DE5

1. The tools. Data entry from home doesn’t require a high investment, but you should have everything for it before applying for a job. Public computers like those of libraries are a bad option, since you have to install your own programs every now and then. Shared computers at home are also a bad option. You’ll need your own computer, since you don’t know when you’ll have to work on it. Your computer must have a Microsoft Office package or a free version such as Open Office installed. You must be able to open and process spreadsheets, text files and Word files. If you are into doing transcriptions, you will also need to play sound files. Besides the computer, you will also need a good Internet connection. There is also special software for transcriptions, that lets you play a sound file at a specific tempo, so you can type it.

2. Your skills. Basically, your most important skill is typing. It is important to type fast and precisely. Speed is no huge advantage is you have to make many corrections after you are done with typing.

3. Choosing the company. Some companies that promise data entry jobs also ask for an upfront fee and a monthly fee. If you want to work for a company, it is because you need money, not because you want to buy something. Ignore any company that asks you for money upfront. Serious companies that have a running business will always ask their customers for money, not their workers. Good companies with a running business also have a professional website. They place ads for finding both clients and workers. Companies that only search for workers or companies that only search for clients are not a good choice. In the former case it could be a scam to attract workers willing to pay an upfront fee. In the latter, the company doesn’t need workers, possibly because it outsources the work or already has many employees. A serious company will also have a real office and its address and telephone number on its website.

Data entry jobs are by no means the only way to make an income from home, there are some great passive income opportunities out there, you just need to know where to look.

Online Data Entry Jobs

August 9, 2009 – 9:30 pm

Many people want or even need to find an online job. Home based jobs are popular, since many people need a second source of income or cannot work full-time in an office due to personal reasons. Finding offers of data entry jobs is not difficult. However, the problem is that many of these jobs are not what they claim that they are. Finding a serious job offer is the first problem that potential workers in this field face. Perhaps, it is even the biggest problem since most job seekers are perfectly qualified for this kind of jobs.

DE4

Many offers are scams aimed to make applicants pay an upfront fee for leads about how to find a job or they are positions for independent sellers. There isn’t anything against the latter, however, if you want to work as a seller, search specifically for a seller’s position, not for a company offering self-employed marketing positions disguised as data entry jobs from home.

Only become a freelance marketing contractor, if that is what you want

As said above, many data entry opportunities from home are just affiliate programs. There is nothing against affiliate programs. Many are even good businesses ideas. It is simply not data entry. A company disguising its activities is also a huge red flag. There are also many affiliate programs over the net that play with open cards. Go for these if you feel comfortable with selling.

Do data entry from home on your own

Data entry from home doesn’t require that you join some dubious program. You can advertise your services in many online classified ads websites. There are really hundreds of web pages that give you the chance of advertising your services; many of these are even free. Give it a try without a middle man. Define precisely your area and stick to it for a while. If things don’t work out try another kind of data entry. There are many potential fields to choose from: transcription, placing ads, processing spreadsheets and many more. If things work out, try to build a team to improve your revenue. Having a team will generate some passive income for you, you will have to concentrate in ensuring the quality of your team and searching for clients.

All that being said; remember that data entry is a huge field and that there are good opportunities out there for people wishing to work from home.

Online Data Entry is a Growing Trend

August 9, 2009 – 9:13 pm

Doing some work from home is can be very rewarding. If you have a full-time job, it gives you a second income. If you cannot leave home due to some personal circumstance, then you can still earn some income. One popular job from home is data entry tasks. All that you need is a computer connected to the Internet. Good typing is almost a must, meaning quality and speed. There is no point in being fast if you are not precise. Equally, if you are precise but take ages to type a short text, then you should improve your typing skills.

DE3

Data entry from home is an interesting job for many people and not only for you. Therefore, there is plenty of competition over the Internet for some rare good positions. To secure a job may be challenging for some people. Getting a job requires tons of patience and a substantial investment of time.

Remember also that there are some drawbacks regarding data entry from home. Data entry work is not very gregarious, so you should expect to work all alone. If you interact with anyone, you will do it over the Internet.

However, the advantages normally offset the disadvantages. Data entry from home allows for lots of flexibility. If you have another source of income or want to spend time with your family, then it is perfect for you. If you cannot stand working in a cubicle, then it is perfect for you. If you can deliver results every single day and only get paid for what you have delivered, than this job is for you. You won’t have to commute or walk to the office, which saves a lot of time that you can invest in your family, hobby or more work.

In many cases it’s pointless to go directly for the companies that need data entry. Many companies outsource their data entry needs to a third party, so you will have to go to these companies that serve as a proxy between the workers and the big projects that require coordination. Watch out for any opportunity at the beginning. You can also go all alone and place ads in web-sites dedicated to classified ads. Be reliable, both regarding the deadlines and the quality of the projects. Clients normally need perfectly transcribed texts and ads free of misspellings. Being consistent is a huge advantage, if you are in the field of data entry to stay.

Data Entry from Home: Common Drawbacks

August 9, 2009 – 9:03 pm

Data entry from home is a very competitive field. Many people who have an Internet connection and a computer would like to have a second source of income. Unemployed are also eager to earn at least a couple of dollars. However, since the field is so competitive, it won’t take you long to realize that many offers of data entry from home are simply online scams. Scammers know that many people are desperate to get a job and use that to their advantage. Watch out for red flags, if you want to find a serious company.

DE2

When searching for a job, ignore following offers:

  • Some Companies will ask for an upfront fee, supposedly to process your application or training material. Data entry requires some abilities like good typing skills, but you can learn this ability on your own. To find a serious job, you won’t need to pay for anything. The company that hires you should also pay you. However, there are certain cases when you will have to spend money to get a job. For example, if a company requires a background check because they deal with delicate personal data or business secrets, it is legitimate and common that job applicants pay for this background check. In this case, you won’t pay the company that is hiring you, but a third party that will confirm that you are suitable to the job
  • The company offers a huge sum of money for some easy tasks. Companies with a running business pay the market price. Not more than that, not less. Of course, there are good paid online entry data jobs, but companies that offer them don’t have to advertise them as loud as they can and they certainly won’t take the first candidate. A good example of good paid entry data jobs are medical transcriptions. If you specialize in medical transcriptions from home, you could earn a substantial amount of money.
  • Beware of cheap, badly designed web-sites. Serious companies also have a serious web-page. Trust your gut. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is a scam. Established data entry companies will have a well-structured web-page where you can find the address and telephone number. Especially if the company contacted you and you don’t have to actively search for a job, it could be a scam. However, don’t let these kinds of offer demotivate you. Data entry from home exits and you can earn money in the field.

Serious Online Data Entry Work

August 9, 2009 – 8:16 pm

Data entry jobs do exits. Some are scams, but really many are honest jobs you can do from home. They are mostly repetitive and easy to perform, but if you need a second source of income and don’t mind working in front of a computer screen then they are for you. This kind of work gives you invaluable flexibility. No matter what other tasks or activities you have in your life, data entry from home is easy to combine with them.

DE1

The Internet offers you a unique home based opportunity to earn money without too much hassle. Online data entry works are numerous and they keep growing. These are normally routine tasks that only require basic training. The only essential abilities for this kind of job is typing and using a computer.

Data entry from home is normally easy work. There is no need for commuting or to deal with difficult clients. It can even pay well, as in the field of medical transcriptions. In this case, some training to understand the terminology is required. The same is the case of juridical transcriptions. They are also well paid, but require more qualifications than transcribing a general text.

However, since data entry from home are sought after second income sources, the competition in the field is also fierce. Prepare to offer your best price and be very flexible in every aspect. Data entry work is essential for many companies, since they cannot contract staff just to perform this task every now and then. Data entry workers normally work on a project basis when data entry is needed. Both small and large companies need data entry workers. Even private persons sometimes need it, since we live in an information era.

Be prepared to be as serious as the company that is hiring you. Well paid jobs also require precise work. Your income will be mostly parallel to your performance. If you need money and want to work long hours, then this job is for you.

Don’t pay a fee to learn how to find a data entry job. Ignore offers when you have to pay. You are searching for a job, not to become a client. The information that you really need is freely available on the net. Serious companies have a web-page that is informative and well-structured. There is no need to pay for information that you can obtain alone for free. Also consult scam watch websites and see if specific companies are listed there.
